BYU-Provo and BYU-Idaho (both Mormon universities) have ballroom dance companies. Similar to an athletic team, dancers can receive special scholarships to join the team. Try-outs are held annually and the team tours the world performing their routines. Utah Valley University also has a ballroom dance team, but they are not a Mormon university. Technically, none of these schools offer a major in ballroom dancing, however, you can major in dance and take ballroom dancing classes. These universities make it possible to become eligible to become a ballroom dance instructor, professional dancer, or choreographer. Answer: Tango is a competition dance. It is danced mostly in Argentina competitions.Answer:Yes. Under WDC rules, ballroom tango is one of ten standardized styles in worldwide International Style dance championship competitions. In WDC American Style competitions, ballroom tango is one of four in the American Smooth division. Interestingly, ballroom tango is not grouped with International Latin in WDC competitions. In contrast to ballroom tango, Argentine tango continues to be an evolving social dance form. Argentine tango is not rigidly standardized like competition ballroom tango and allows much more freedom for improvisation. While it is not primarily a competitive form, the government of Argentina hosts an annual competition of Argentine tango in Buenos Aires, which attracts competitors from around the world.
You have to be an extremely proficient ballroom dancer to be on the team. A lot of the dancers have taken other types of dance, and that definitely helps. However, you can't expect to make it on the team if you've never taken any ballroom classes... BYU offers bronze, silver, and gold levels of both standard and latin ballroom (as well as a handful of other ballroom dance classes). If you take these classes, you're much more likely to do well in the auditions and therefore more likely to make it onto one of the ballroom dance teams (understand that there is more than one team; the top team is the one that tours and competes, and you generally have to work your way up to it by being on one of the lower teams first).
Ballroom dancing is a sport, you ballroom dance by putting your arms up and just letting go if you become very good then you will always look smooth in what you do. When you dance you start to develop an absolutely wonderful body shape you have a great figure and you will always want to do it if you are dedicated and always treasure a sport you do if you are good at it.
