You have to be an extremely proficient ballroom dancer to be on the team. A lot of the dancers have taken other types of dance, and that definitely helps. However, you can't expect to make it on the team if you've never taken any ballroom classes... BYU offers bronze, silver, and gold levels of both standard and latin ballroom (as well as a handful of other ballroom dance classes). If you take these classes, you're much more likely to do well in the auditions and therefore more likely to make it onto one of the ballroom dance teams (understand that there is more than one team; the top team is the one that tours and competes, and you generally have to work your way up to it by being on one of the lower teams first).
