The New Jersey Plan
The United States government is divided into three separate branches, each with distinct responsibilities. These are the Legislative, Executive and Judicial branches.
The judiciary interprets laws that were passed by the legislature, the executive enforces the laws that were passed by the legislature. The judiciary however is appointed by the executive and confirmed by the legislature. Any unconstitutional acts by any other branches of government can be declared as so by the judiciary only, which is called judicial review.
The US Constitution states this, it attempts to separate the Judiciary, Executive and Legislature so that power is balanced.Judicial Review
Singapore is a parliamentary democracy, or republic. They exercise three separate branches of government (Executive, Legislature, & Judiciary). Legislative power is in both the government and Parliament of Singapore. Judiciary is independent to the executive and legislature. Hopefully this helps, :-) I was just looking this information up for a project!

In the UK, the separation of powers is not as clearly defined as in some other countries like the US. The UK has a parliamentary system where the executive (government) is drawn from and accountable to the legislature (Parliament). This means that there is a substantial overlap of powers between the executive, legislature, and judiciary.
