To be honest there are numerous kinds but the most common would probably be a wolf spider or a brown recluse it also has to do with the pattern if it has two rows of eyes then it is most likely a wolf spider
You just might be referring to the common house spider or the funnel web spider these are typically found in corners of Homes or furniture and boxes. They are commonly mistaken for the brown recluse (found in southwestern US) and the hobo spider ( found in pacific north west US)
