Havdalah. lit. separation (between sabbath and the weekday)
The blessing that ends the Jewish Shabbat is called "Havdalah." It marks the separation between the holy day of Shabbat and the rest of the week. During Havdalah, blessings are recited over wine, spices, and a multi-wicked candle.
The Sabbath day of rest is called shabbat in Hebrew.
Shabbat ends of its own accord at the time a bit after sunset on Saturday night. Nothing that mankind does can either extend it or cause it to end. Those who observe the Shabbat can only mark its beginning and its end as they occur. The brief ceremony and set of blessings that mark the very end of shabbat are known as "HAHV-da-LAH", meaning "division" or "boundary" in Hebrew. It marks the boundary between holy and weekday-like. The moment is considered to be a let-down.
The Sabbath, known to the Jewish people as Shabbat in Hebrew and Shabbos in Yiddish observe it from Friday at sunset to Saturday. Shabbat is officially over when you can see 3 stars in the sky and at that time there is a Havdalah ceremony to seperate the Sabbath from the rest of the week. A Jewish day is always sundown to sundown.
Shabbat (the Jewish Sabbath).
The only day of the week which has a name in Judaism is the Shabbat, which is named in the Torah (Exodus ch.31). Other days are simply called so-and-so-many-days-after-Shabbat.
