A scripture reference is the book, chapter and verse in the Bible. Example: John 3:16. 'John' is the specific book of The Bible. '3' is the chapter in the book. '16' is the verse in the chapter.

Mr. Antolini gives Holden advice in Chapter 24 of "The Catcher in the Rye." He offers guidance and insight to Holden about life, relationships, and growing up.
Beowulf reference is when he is having breakfast in New York along side two nuns. One nun (the English teacher) asks him which books he has read this year and Beowulf was one of them along with Romeo and Juliette, The actual chapter it is found at is towards end of chapter 15.
Question: What is Holden's reaction when he hears the boys singing in the chapel in Chapter 14 of "The Catcher in the Rye"? Answer: Holden finds their singing as phony and feels that the boys are conceited.
I think it is a reference to the Bible, to the chapter called Romans and the verses 1 and 14 of that chapter.
