Technically the kinect was not invented by microsoft. A company called PrimeSense created the camera technology and was originally going to sell it to MAC. However MAC did not want the technology so they sold the technology to Microsoft. Now PrimeSense is teaming up with ASUS making another kinect for the PC but it is called Wavi Xtion.
