For a small country, the Irish are well travelled, and we took our music with us wherever we went. One of the places that Irish people ended up was in the Deep South in America, and it is believed that Irish musicians definitely influenced country music in it's origins. Well that's the history, but truth is that Irish music is still influencing country music today. Songwriters like Mick Hanly have written songs which have become major Country hits, 'Past the point of rescue' for Hal Ketchum is a good example.

The Appalachian mountains saw the birth of what would become country music. mostly from the hillbillies playin with their banjos.
Never. Country music has never become popular. Instead the classical country music has been infused with a pop styling to produce the songs that are popular with people today who consider them country. Songs by such artists as Taylor Swift and Keith Urban.
Classifying a style of music is always a matter of opinion (unless it's obvious), I don't honestly think this could be classed as "country music" by anyone, furthermore "country music" is not even suggested by the record company. I also think that most country music isn't so much the actual tune or lyrics but the way in which it is performed. So if a known country singer was to sing this song, it could then become country music.
