Rear wheel drive, any one piece of the steering linkage, tie rod ends being first on the list, and then pitman arm on the passenger side opposite the gear box. Front wheel drive, tie rod ends or the steering rack itself. Have someone move the steering wheel back and forth and look for the loose piece.
The airbag is located inside the black cover in the center of the steering wheel. Same piece you hit to sound the horn and it sperates from the steering wheel. Once that piece is off, Im not sure how to take the airbag out, as I only replaced my steering wheel. But, to get this piece off, there are two bolts on the backside of the steering wheel. Pop the hole covers off with a flathead screwdriver and remove bolts. Disconnect the wiring harnessess and the center piece is out. I hope this helps or, at the very least, gives you a place to start.
