The museum first opened in 1964 as the Museum of History and Technology. In 1980, the museum was renamed The National Museum of American History to better represent a refocused mission: the collection, care, study, and interpretation of objects that reflect the experience of the American people.
When the American people got so bored they had to make a museum about the people you read about every day.
Construction began in 1931. It was part of Stalin's five year plan. Work was completed on the first 7.2 miles in 1935 and the first 13 stations were opened in May. By 1939 there were 22 stations serving over one million passengers. Today there is 165 stations and 155 miles of track. The trains travel up to speeds of 56 mph and it carries 8-9 million people per day. I was there last summer and it is awesome.
The Grand Canyon Skywalk was opened to the public on March 28, 2007. Up to 120 people are allowed on the Skywalk at one time.
New inventions and products allowed people at home and work to be more productive. Also it opened up new jobs.
