What is the name of a force that pulls object towards the centre of the earth?

gravity

How does gravity affect an object in motion?

it pulls the object towards the earth which kind of slows it down i guess. or is that friction? For an object travelling in the Earths atmosphere, or near to the Earth above the atmosphere, gravity provides a force pulling the object towards the centre of the Earth. Unless the object is travelling fast enough, what is called the escape velocity, this gravity force will ultimately cause the object to fall back to the surface. Friction is something else, the friction with the air in the atmosphere also slows the object, but this force acts in opposition to the direction of motion, not towards the Earths centre. To compute the trajectory of the object you need to take both forces into account.

In which direction does gravitional force apply?

The concept of direction in relation to gravity is complex. Gravity is a property of matter and can be visulised as a force pulling towards the centre of mass of that matter. Thus YOU as a body of matter have a mass and a gravitational force of your own. However, on the Earth, your mass is much smaller than Earth's so you feel Earth's gravity pulling you towards its centre. On the Moon you woud feel yourself being pulled towards the centre of mass of the Moon. Thus as you can see what happens applies depends on where you are - but - it is always towards the centre of mass.

What is the effect of gravity on object?

Gravity is the force which pulls anything (even us humans) towards the centre of the earth. This makes objects, such as apples, fall to the ground when you drop them!

What is the origin of centripetal force?

Centripetal force is the resultant force acting towards the centre of orbit of an object undergoing uniform circular motion.

What is the force of gravity on an object's mass?

None, an objects mass (how much stuff there is as measured in kg and g or lb and oz if your old fashioned) is constant, no matter where it is in the universe.Gravity affects weight. The amount of gravity changes how much force (weight) is exerted on an object of a specific mass.E.g., on Earth, a 1kg object has a weight force of 10N towards the centre of the planet. On the Moon, the same 1kg object only has a 1.6N force exerted on it towards the centre, because the Moon has a weaker gravitational field than Earth.

What force are you working against when you lift a backpack?

How is weight a force?

because it is experienced by pull of earth.weight of a body is equal to force by which earth pulls body towards its centre
