Nunavut is the most recent Canadian territory, having been established on April 1st, 1999, however, it is technically not an area that joined Confederation so much as one that was carved out of a pre-existing one.

The Yukon would therefore be the last territory to enter the Confederation, having done so in 1898. The Northwest Territories was first in 1870.
