Where to put split ac in a room?

I am not certain of what you are asking but here goes... Commercial service is carried to a home over three wires. The center wire is connected to earth ground. There is 120 volts AC from the center wire to one outside wire, 120 volts AC from the center wire and the other outside wire and 240 volts AC from one outside wire to the other one. All ordinary wall outlets and light fixtures operate off 120 volts. The object of home wiring is to connect one half of the anticipated 120 volt load to one of the outside wires (and the center ground wire) and the other half of the anticipated load to the other outside wire (and ground) In every case the white wire goes to ground. Appliances such as electric stoves, electric clothes dryers and some air conditioners operate off 240 volts. Such appliances are connected to the two outside wires (and ground) via special three-prong outlets.
