The first program to put a man in space was the Soviet Union's Vostok program, so the second manned space program would be the US Mercury program. The second US manned program was Gemini.

Their has only been one purely American space station, Skylab which was in operation between 1973-1974. America currently is a partner in the International Space Station, which has been in orbit since 1998. The US also participated in the Russian Mir space station program in the late 1990s.
