There are primarily three kinds of joints:

  1. FIBROUS = articulating bones are held closely together by fibrous connective tissue
  2. CARTILAGINOUS = articulating bones are held closely together by cartilage
  3. SYNOVIAL = joint where there a space between the articulating bones which is filled with synovial fluid
