The Sea of Japan There are two, between North and South Korea and the China/Russia border area to the west, and the east coast of China to the West. The Sea of Japan lays to the West and the East China Sea is more to the South West.
The Japanese (and most of the world today call it the Sea of Japan. But since 1992, North and South Korea and have disputed the name. North Korea chooses to call it "East Sea of Korea" ans South Korea simply calls it "East Sea." Some contemporary maps have added "East Sea" in parentheses after "Sea of Japan."
