The European Robin (also known as the Robin Red Breast) is the national bird of the United Kingdom.

In 1961 the British section for the international council of birds was tasked to select a title bearer, after a long correspondence in The Times newspaper they chose the Robin.

The Robins Red breast is really orange, but that word was a later arrival in the English language, until then the color had been deemed a shade of red, the Robins alternative name went unaffected.

Some quarters insist it is the Wren but this isn't correct, although that bird does feature in plenty of British folklore even described as the King of birds within that.

The European Robin.

The two main traditional symbols of England are the St George's Cross (the English flag), and the Three Lions coat of arms. Other national symbols exist, but have varying degrees of official usage, such as the oak tree and the rose.

It often comes as a surprise to many Americans that other countries don't have "A State ......" with that "......" being one of a range of possible emblematic nouns.

England doesn't have a "state bird" - nor do many European countries.

Equally, it often comes as a surprise to many Europeans that states in America have such official emblems as ...

  • Bird
  • Fish
  • Fossil
  • Land Mammal
  • Marine Mammal
  • Mineral
  • Musical instrument
  • Sport
  • Tree

... among others.

england national bird is the robin.
England, in itself, does not have a state bird. But the United Kingdom (the country in which England is located) does have a national bird - the European Robin.
