June 16
December 16,1994
June 16th is known as National Youth Day in South Africa. It started in 1976 when students were fighting against the government.
We should celebrate this day -because it honours the history of South Africa and the youth of 1976. The struggle against Apartheid and Bantu education that was fought by black students from Soweto.

Youth Day is important to South Africa because it symbolises the outrage of the youth who knew what was best for our country and only wanted peace. It also reminds us that the youth of today must fight for our rights and needs just as they fought and died for their rights and needs in 1976. They need to fight against HIV/AIDS as well as the increase in crime which is affecting our youth today. It is a national holiday to remember all the young people who lost their lives in the struggle against apartheid. We honour all these brave young people.
