It is a Brother Grimm story . Sleeping Beauty is based in Medieval Germany. Her castle is based on Schloss Neuschwanstein, a German castle- and the story itself has German roots. However, it was ortiginally called "Little Briar Rose" by the Grimms but an adaptation rewritten by Charles Perrault who put a french slant to the story and called it La Belle au bois dormant "The Beauty in the Sleeping Wood".
There have been many versions of Cinderella's story dating as far back the first century BC where it was first historically recorded by a Greek historian who went by the name of Strabo. The most notable version was written in 1697 by the French author Charles Perrault. This was the first book to include a pumpkin, glass slippers and Cinderella's wish-granting fairy god mother. He published the tale of Cinderella in a book of fairy tales he entitled The Tales of Mother Goose (translated from French). In this same book, he published the tale of Sleeping Beauty.
The third good fairy in Disney's Sleeping Beauty is named Merryweather. She dressed in blue, while Flora dressed in red and Fauna in green. These particular fairies were Disney interpretations in the film story adaptation from the 1697 fairy tale by Charles Perrault. (Merryweather is often found misspelled in different ways, but this is the Disney spelling.)
