The bristles on their abdomen that they rub with their back legs which then break off and shoot in the direction of the would be predator. These short bristles can cause serious irritation and infection as they are so fine they easily pierce the mucous membranes and continue to work their way inwards. Can eventually lead to blindness caused by the predator's efforts to remove the source of the irritation - often damaging it's own eye!
