Eridanus was named after the greek goddess Eridalica. the word eridanus means envious one. the brightest star in the constellation is achernar, alltogether their are 21 stars in this constellation. the legend of eridanus is that: one day while while caring to her garden the young Eridalica fell asleep and dreamt of soaring thourgh the sky.Only it wasn't a dream Eridalica saw her dead body on the garden of her roses and saw she had been murdered there was a dagger in her back and reconized it to be her her guard's Ferrnipoli. Eridalica was angered and swore revenge on Ferrnipoli, and she went into the sky to gather stars to fight with her along her side. as she and the stars thrust him upward into the sky, creating the constellation eridanus. still to this day, Ferrnipoli begs Eridalica to set him free.
