The M16 automatic assault rifle:
The M16 is a shoulder fired, fully automatic, gas operated, rotating bolt, low recoil, standard military issue assault rifle.
History of the M16:
Designed in 1960 by Eugene Stoner, this Rifle was made specifically to shoot a highly accurate, high velocity round (5.56 x 45mm NATO cartridge) with a new theory in mind, the three round burst. The idea being that three rounds fired very quickly will have a much better grouping than a slower, automatic rate of fire.
And he was right.
The M16 was put into service in 1963 during the Vietnam War with disastrous results, the gun powder (ball gunpowder) used would resonate around the bolt face disabling the next round to be loaded in. This was because of the very humid conditions. (^this is why there is a 'forward assist' on every M16 since the M16A2)
When the new gun powder was applied the results were as expected, easy to handle, durable, and very accurate. In fact, the 5.56 round is extremely effective against a person because the round travels so fast that when it strikes, it tumbles. This leaves a huge cavity inside the body.
Specifications of the M16:
The M16A1 rifle was developed by the American engineer Eugene Stoner and his team at the ArmaLite Corporation in the late 1950s. The design was later adopted by the U.S. military in the 1960s, with the M16A1 becoming the standard issue rifle during the Vietnam War. It was a refinement of the original ArmaLite AR-15 design, incorporating various improvements based on military feedback.
The effective range of the M16A1 rifle is approximately 550 meters, but it can technically fire up to around 3,600 meters. However, accuracy and effectiveness decrease significantly at longer distances.

The M16A1 is the U.S. military designation for the AR-15 rifle built by Colt. The AR-15 itself was invented in 1957 by Eugene Stoner (1922-1997) while at ArmaLite.
When Armalite first developed the rifle, they gave it the nomenclature of AR-15. When they sold the rights to Colt, Colt continued using the AR-15 name, and applied it to all variants of the rifle (usually accompanied by a model number). M16 is a military nomenclature - the rifles are still AR-15 rifles, but built to certain specifications, as required by military and law enforcement customers.
The M16A1 rifle was developed by the United States military as an improved version of the original M16. The design was primarily attributed to Eugene Stoner, who initially created the Armalite AR-15 rifle, which served as the basis for the M16 platform. The M16A1 was adopted by the U.S. military in 1967 and featured enhancements such as a forward-assist mechanism and a chrome-lined barrel to improve reliability.
The M16A1 assault rifle has two modes of fire: semi-automatic and fully automatic. As long as the trigger is held down, the weapon will continue to fire until the magazine is empty.
Depends on which military. US uses the M16A1 rifle, or the M4 carbine version of the same.
its a loot item in rob the armenians which ever job tier its in cant remember
550 Meters at a point target, 800 meters at an area target. By the way, M16A3 is not a military nomenclature - it was coined by Colt when they made an M16A2 with an M16A1 trigger group for export customers.
The M16A1 rifle, when loaded with a 20-round magazine, typically weighs around 8.5 pounds (approximately 3.9 kg). This weight includes the rifle itself, the magazine, and the ammunition. The loaded magazine adds about 1.5 pounds (0.68 kg) to the overall weight.
The M-16 RIFLE was developed by Colt for the US service and deployed in 1964 as the M16A1. No one discovered it.
