Best Answer

Farmor = father's mother (lit. "father mother")

Mormor = mother's mother (lit. "mother mother")

Conversely, the male equivalents are "farfar" and "morfar".

You may also use "bestemor" which can replace both "farmor" and "mormor". The male equivalent is "bestefar".

That depends. There are 3 different ways to say the word "grandmother" in Norwegian. If the grandmother is your mother's mother, it's "mormor". If she's your father's mother, it's "farmor". But the word "bestemor" is probably the most common, and can be used for both your mother's and your father's mother.

Mormor for mother's mom and farmor for father's mom. You may also use bestemor for both of them, just as you use grandmother in english.
