It Was First Called Muhammadans,

Because Muslims follow The last Prophet Muhammad (Sallallaahu Alaehe Wasallam) Sooner It Came to Know as Islam (The Final Religion).

________________________________________________________________

Islam is the name since start of universe creation and remained the same with no change since then and until the resurrection day. Islam means surrender and full submission to God as the one and only one God. Hence, Islam in its general sense is the religion and call of all prophets since Adam; through Noah, Abraham, Moses, and Jesus, until prohet Muhammad (Peace be upon them all). The name Muhammadans is called by non Muslims as followers of prophet Muhammad in analogy to Christians as followers of the Christ Jesus. It was never named as such by neither Muslims nor by Arabs.

The name of Islam is as old as the universe creation. Islam is an Arabic word that means surrender and submission to god. In this sense the first creation of any thing alive or not alive was created on the principle of Islam, that is submission to God (Allah in Arabic) the Creator. Then upon mankind creation that started by creation of Adam, all God prophets; including Adam, Noah, ... , Abraham, ..., Moses, ..., Jesus, and Muhammad; called people to Islam, that submission to God (Allah) the Creator the one and only one God. This very name Islam is also the religion per Quran revelation by God to prophet Muhammad through the angel Gabriel. Quran revelation started by year 610 AD (when prophet Muhammad was 40 years old) and continued through year 632 AD (year of prophet Muhammad (PBUH) death.

Answer 1

According to Islam the Muslim faith was on the face of the earth since the first man put his foot on earth. I mean from the time Adam came to the earth was the time when Islam started. Muhammad was not the one who started Islam. Adam Jesus Moses Abraham Muhammad and other prophets did what God wanted. and the one who does what God wants is called a Muslim.

Answer 2

In accordance with reality, Muhammad began preaching Islam around 610 C.E. This puts Islam at around 1400 years old, making it one of the world's younger religions.

What is Islam?: The name of the religion is Islam, which comes from an Arabic root word meaning "peace" and "submission." Islam teaches that one can only find peace in one's life by submitting to Almighty God (Allah) in heart, soul and deed. The same Arabic root word gives us "Salaam alaykum," ("Peace be with you"), the universal Muslim greeting.

Who is a Muslim?: A person who believes in and consciously follows Islam is called a Muslim, also from the same root word. So, the religion is called "Islam," and a person who believes in and follows it is a "Muslim."* What is the difference between Muslim, Moslem and Islamic?

How Many and Where?: Islam is a major world religion, with over 1 billion followers worldwide (1/5 of the world population). It is considered one of the Abrahamic, monotheistic faiths, along with Judaism and Christianity. Although usually associated with the Arabs of the Middle East, less than 10% of Muslims are in fact Arab. Muslims are found all over the world, of every nation, color and race.* Muslim population of the world

Who is Allah?: Allah is the proper name for Almighty God, and is often translated merely as "God." Allah has other names that are used to describe His characteristics: the Creator, the Sustainer, the Merciful, the Compassionate, etc.Muslims believe that since Allah alone is the Creator, it is He alone that deserves our devout love and worship. Islam holds to a strict monotheism. Any worship and prayers directed at saints, prophets, other human beings or nature is considered idolatry.* More about the nature of God* "Names" of Allah

What do Muslims believe about God, prophets, the afterlife, etc.?: The basic beliefs of Muslims fall into six main categories, which are known as the "Articles of Faith":* Faith in the unity of God* Faith in angels* Faith in prophets* Faith in books of revelation* Faith in an afterlife* Faith in destiny/divine decree

The "five pillars" of Islam: In Islam, faith and good works go hand-in-hand. A mere verbal declaration of faith is not enough, for belief in Allah makes obedience to Him a duty. The Muslim concept of worship is very broad. Muslims consider everything they do in life to be an act of worship, if it is done according to Allah's guidance. There are also five formal acts of worship which help strengthen a Muslim's faith and obedience. They are often called the "Five Pillars of Islam."* Testimony of faith (Kalima)* Prayer (Salat)* Almsgiving (Zakat)* Fasting (Sawm)* Pilgrimage (Hajj)

Daily life as a Muslim: While often seen as a radical or extreme religion, Muslims consider Islam to be the middle road. Muslims do not live life with complete disregard for God or religious matters, but nor do they neglect the world to devote themselves solely to worship and prayer. Muslims strike a balance by fulfilling the obligations of and enjoying this life, while always mindful of their duties to Allah and to others.* Morals and manners* Business ethics* Modesty in dress and behavior* Dietary rules* Marriage* Care of children and elderly* Racism and prejudice* Relations with non-Muslims

Q What does the word 'Islam' mean?

A Islam is an Arabic word which literally means obedience and peace. So 'Islam' would mean the path of those who are obedient to Allah and who establish peace with Him and His creatures.

Q What is a follower of the religion of Islam called?A He is called a Muslim.Q Who gave the name of Islam to our religion?

A Allah gave the name of Islam to our religion.

Q Can you quote the verse of the Holy Quran where the name of Islam has been given to our religion.

A Yes. In chapter 5 verse 4, Allah named our religion as Islam.

Q What are the main qualities of Islam?

A Islam is a perfect religion. Its teachings are simple and can easily be practiced by everyone. It gives reason for each of its commandments and teachings. The Holy Quran, which is the religious scripture of the Muslims, is the word of Allah. This book is exactly the same as it was revealed to the Holy Prophet (may peace and blessings of Allah be on him). Allah has promised to safeguard it.

There are two point of views regarding this question. First, is the old name of Islam was "Deen e Hanifi".

Secondly is that Islam is the orignal name as seen from the texts of the Last Holy Book Al-Quran. But since in Islam all prophets tought the same religion and to worship the same God, then earier followers of the right path had different names for their religion which inactual are the same teachings as those of Islam, only not the same now.
