The Bible is the oldest book ever written, parts of it being composed some 3,500 years ago. The first part of this book was written a few centuries before the earliest hymns of the Hindu scriptures, the Vedas, were formulated and about a thousand years before Buddha, Mahāvīra, and Confucius walked the earth. This book was completed in 98 C.E., more than 500 years before Muḥammad founded Islam.

The Epic of Gilgamesh is an epic poem from Ancient Mesopotamia and is the earliest known work of literary fiction. Although the Epic of Gilgamesh is old, I do not believe it to be the oldest. I believe that the book of Job in the Bible is the oldest, dating back to the time of possibly even Abraham or Noah. For a fact, it even describes some dinosaurs in later chapters. Job thoroughly describes a "leviathan", which almost perfectly matches our current description of a pleciosaurus. He also describes a large animal with "a tail as large as a cedar", along with other things that makes it match up perfectly with bronchiosaurus.

No one knows; it was some time back in Greek times probably.

The oldest poems in this world were not written, but chiselled. The snow-clad Neanderthaal Valleys in Germania and the bitter-cold Cromagnon Caves in France are full of them. The first man to view a distant sunset sitting secure and safe on the mouth of his mountain cave was the first poet.
