THE OLDEST TEXT DISCOVERED IS THE linear text A & B of Cretan Mycean GREEK language at 6 millennium BC ! on the wooden plate discovered in Dispilio of Kastoria Greece. If anyone studies the Greek influence in the majority of ancient languages, from south America to Africa to China, u could easily conclude that GREEK is the mother language of all.Arthur Evans [Archeology & History researcher] studying the development of script & syllables, concluded that Phoenicians got the script from Cretan colonists that lived on the shores of Palestine known then as Philistine. He admits that Cretan writing is the mother of Phoenician script. Rene Dysau concluded also that Phoenicians took their script from Cretomycian Greek civilization. The proof was given by studying sources of linear text A & B of Crete in 1900 & 1952. Also the Discussion of Phaestos had had this writing long before the Phoenicians. Also the wooden plate discovered in Dispilio of Kastoria, 5250 bc is the oldest, discovered with linear text. The pottery in Milos 3000 bc. The epigraph of Sporades 5000 bc that had the Greek letters (Α,Υ, 16;,Χ,Ν etc). Those who [Like Herodotos] claim that Phoenicians gave Greeks the Letters say it was much later at 800bc so Gilgamesh is no longer the grandfather of them all.

Is the Declaration of Independence the oldest document alive?

Even though the US Constitution was said to be "a living document" neither it nor the Declaration of Independence is alive. The oldest known surviving formal document(s) from history are the Dead Sea Scrolls which are about 2000 years old. There are cave paintings and smaller fragments that have been found that are older still. The oldest surviving documents from US history are probably contemporary trasnscriptions of The Mayflower Compact in in Mourt's Relation and William Bradford's journal Of Plymouth Plantation .
