Which parts of a microscope regulate the amount of light?

light source: An attached lamp that directs a beam of light up through the object.

Do opaque and translucent and transparent materials reflect and absorb light and if so what is amount of light reflected and absorbed comparatively?

An opaque object neither absorbs nor reflects all light. How much it absorbs and how much it reflects depends on the color of the object. An opaque object does not allow light to pass through. Hold up your wallet and look at it. Even if you hold it up to a strong light, you will not see any light coming through it. But the wallet has a color, and this means it is absorbing some light, and it is reflecting some light. To say that an object absorbs some light is NOT the same as saying that the absorbed light must pass through the object. Light that passes through a translucent or transparent object is not absorbed; if it were, you wouldn't see it coming through, would you?

Can a mirror be a opaque object?

Great question! A mirror can be called as opaque. Because as a whole, it does not allow light to pass through it..Defn of opaque objects: Impervious to the rays of light.A mirror is actually a thin glass slab with its one side coated with silver. So when the rays fall on the mirror, it first falls on the upper face of the glass slab, gets refracted, travels through it, gets reflected by silver, travels back through glass slab, gets refracted at the upper glass-air interface and comes out.So here light actually "passes through" one of the parts of mirror- the glass slab(the other one being the silver coating). But when you say mirror, you consider the object as a whole and not by parts... AND as a whole it does not allow light to pass through it. Therefore, you can very well call it opaque!!

Why does light appear bent?

Light exhibits wave characteristics. It is a characteristic of waves to travel in the direction of higher density. Light will bend towards the thicker parts of the glass. To be honest, there is no easy answer why that happens unless one wants to resort to quantum mechanics which is above the heads of most.White light is composed of a variety of frequencies. The wave rule is "longest is strongest" so the longest wave lengths are in the reds while the shortest wavelengths are in the blues. Blue will bend most and red the least. If light passes through a prism the beam will be spread out wider and the light will be bent towards the thicker part of the prism and the result will be a "rainbow" effect.Check out "index of refraction" You will see each will be different depending on what the material is. The angles change when light goes from one density to another. It's the same reason why you're pencil looks different when you put it in a glass of water. The light bends because as the light is entering the glass block it changes directon and slows down

Why do medical imaging machines use x-rays instead of visible light?

Because x-rays - as opposed to visible light - can go through fairly thick parts of the body. Useful if you suspect a broken bone for instance. Visible light will only go through thin parts of your body, like cheeks, earlobes. And will only give a reddish blur at that. Not particularly useful to find out what's going on inside.

A lunar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes through Earths?

A partial lunar eclipse occurs when the Moon partly passes through the Earth's umbra. A total lunar eclipse occurs when the Moon fully passes through the Earth's umbra. When the Moon only passes through the penumbra, there is only a subtle darkening of its surface. The umbra and the penumbra are parts of the Earth's shadow.
