The sun is in the center of our solar system, then come the planets Mercury, Venus and then Earth. Since the moon circles the Earth sometimes the moon is between the sun and the Earth and sometimes the Earth is between the sun and the moon.

The Earth orbits the Sun, and the Moon orbits the Earth.

About four times a year, they all line up almost exactly; at least, exactly enough that the shadow of the Moon hits the Earth, or the shadow of the Earth hits the Moon.

When they line up as "Sun, Earth, Moon", we have a lunar eclipse; when it lines up as Sun, Moon, Earth, then we have a solar eclipse.

They can be Sun - Moon - Earth or Sun - Earth - Moon; or the reverse of those if you're going the other direction, or they could not be "lined up" at all. The one thing that cannot happen is that the Sun cannot be between the Earth and the Moon (for one thing, it wouldn't fit).

The order is Sun-Earth-Moon.

In order to show a full moon to Earth, the Moon must be directly behind the Earth as seen from the Sun. In some cases, this will cause a lunar eclipse.

What are the relative position of the sun the moon and earth during a full moon?

When the moon is full, the full of the face of the moon that is facing earth is lit by the sun. The only way this can happen is if the earth is between the sun and the moon. We need the sun "behind us" to allow the sun to light up all of the moon's face so it can appear full.

When was the moon closest to the sun it is at?

* When Earth is at periapsis (closest to the Sun, in January), Earth, and therefore the Moon, are closer to the Sun than when Earth is at apapsis. * On average, at new moon the Moon is closer to the Sun than at full moon, since at full moon the Moon is opposite to the Sun in the sky.

What will happen if the earth get between the sun and moon?
