Silicones are polysiloxane compounds (basically complex organic compounds with some or all of the Carbon atoms replaced with Silicon atoms).

If you were asking about the element Silicon, that's a different story. That comes from the Latin word Silicus, meaning "Flint" (which is a type of rock containing Silicon).
