It starts in childhood when the child is rejected, belittled and made to feel pathetic by their primary caregivers. The child feels he is flawed and tries to make up for it by being the exact opposite. He feels people will only except him if he has something amazing about him to make up for it. So in trying to be superhuman to be accepted he ends up getting rejected by everyone which reinforces the notion that he is flawed. What he should have realized is that the parents were At Fault and not him and that he would have been accepted for who he was, unfortuanlty he will never know who he really is. Narcissism perpetuates itself unless there is some intervention at some point, unfortuantly there usually isn't.

The narcissist is monsterous in many ways, but deep down inside they really just want to be accepted by people, they are a sad broken child unable to receive love from others. The harder they try to be accepted the more they are pushed away. It is a human tragedy that can happen to any of us.

Sexual abuse, discrimination and bullying can also cause victims to be narcissistic. Wars breed narcissists. It is functionally maladaptive but at least it is functioning. Everything he does, no matter how obnoxius or cruel he is to be accepted. He thinks love only comes to the special ones, unfortuanlty no matter how special the narcissist is, he will not be loved for those reasons. He is doomed to fail, if he were to realize what was going on, he would not be healed but at least he would be easier to be around.

tip- if the narcissist shouts at you, shout back

-don't take his abuse personally, in fact he hurts the people hes closest too
