Hmmm,,im not sure if this is the answer you want, but their origin is that they are one of the 12 tribes of Israel. Each tribe descended from one man, that was one of Jacob's 12 sons. Each tribe bears the name of that son, from which the tribe descendents originate. The Levites are of the tribe of Levi, who was Jacob's third son of the 12 born.Gen 29:34 (timewise, this is about 1760 b.c.)--long time ago!!!
