Hey guys!

Well the charge of an ionic compound (metal combining with a nonmetal) is neutral because a metal had a positive charge and a nonmetal has a negative charge. But the charge of a molecular compound (nonmetal combining with a nonmetal) is negative because both elements have negative charges.

BaS or Barium sulfide is the ionic compound. Ba has a charge of 2+ and S has a charge of 2- so when you combine them, they produce the neutral ionic compound BaS.

What is the formula for the ionic compound K plus and I?

The ion for Potassium has a charge of 1+.The ion for Iodine has a charge of 1-.This means that in order to make the overall charge of a unit of a compound of Potassium and Iodine, there must be one atom of Potassium and one atom of Iodine. Therefore, when K+ and I- are bonded, they make the ionic compound of KI.

Zero. A compound will never have a net ionic charge.

Why must the net charge on any ionic compound always equal zero?

They have no charge..the ions are attracted to opposite charge until the overall charge is zero
