This depends on concentration AND type

Example: pH = 1.0 for 0.10 mol/L acids which are strong and monoprotic (like HCl and HNO3)

0.10 mol/L Acetic acid (weak, pKa=4.77) pH will be about 2.4 (in stead of 1.0 , if it were strong)

To answer this question, you need to know the actual concentration of the dilute hydrochloric acid. As it is a strong acid, it can be considered to be fully dissociated into ions. So if the acid is 1 Molar, then the concentration of H+ is also 1 Molar, and the pH = - log [H+] = - log 1 = 0 If the dilute acid was 0.1 Molar concentration, then pH = - log 0.1 = 1 For added information: Sometimes people think that the pH scale runs from exactly 1 to exactly 14. This is not true, The pH of a strong acid, if sufficiently concentrated can be below 1, or even negative! The pH of a concentrated strong alkali can be above 14.

It depends on the concentration, but a 1 molar solution will have a pH of 0

What is the hydrochloric acid pH scale?

HCl is a very strong acid: dilute solution (eg. 3.65 g/L) has pH of 1.0 , or when concentration is 3.65 mg/L then pH = 4.0.

Stomach acid contains dilute hydrochloric acid. At the concentrations found i the stomach the pH ranges from about 1.5 to about 2.0

What is pH of a hydrochloric acid?

The pH value of the solution depends on the strength of the acid, in other words, acid concentration.

What pH level is Hydrochloric acid?

pH depends on the concentration of the acid as well as how strong it is. A 1.0M solution ( a measure of the number of molecules per liter) has a pH of 0 but a more dilute solution will have a higher (less acidic pH).

If you add water to an acid will it weaken the acid?

Yes. It will dilute the acid and increase its pH value (less acidic).
