Drain the oil from your 1997 Chevrolet Cavalier oil pan. The oil pan is held in place with 12 retaining bolts. Remove the oil pan retaining bolts.

Yes, I have a 1988 and 1989 Chevy Cavalier Z24 and they both have the 2.8L V6
in front of the passanger side rear wheel On the non Z24 1996 Cavalier it is located directly behind the gas tank in front of the spare tire well.
Next to the oil filter, bolted to the block.
have never changed a thermostat on mine. but when we put in the new motor we noticed it was located on the back side of the motor below the exhaust but above the oil pan. follow the 2in pipe that is bolted to the oil pan to the left side/back of the motor
it means you are about to put a rod into your oil pan.
the same way you would on any other car. there is a drain plug on the bottem of the oil pan you take that bolt out and let the oil drain and then you take the oil filter off . and make sure after all the oil is all drained out you put the plug back in the oil pan. replace the oil filter and put it back on and put oil back in the car
back center of the block right above the oil pan it has 2 wires going to the one above it with one wire is the knock sensor
