The distributor cap is located on the top of the distributor on a 1996 Sunfire. It is connected to the spark plugs via a wire.
The distributor cap is located where the spark plugs cables are connected .They go from the motor to the distributor cap.

The spark travels from the coil to the distributor then from the distributor to the plugs. So if you have spark going into the distributor but not coming out to the plugs, I would blame the distributor cap and rotor being at fault.
My 93 camry has no power from the distributor to the spark plugs. The car unable to start.
One goes to the ignition, the other two to the spark plugs.
On the Millenia, each plug has its own coil; there is no distributor. The coils are connected directly to the spark plugs on each cylinder.
Follow the plug wires to the end. One end connects to the "distributor" along with the other wires. The other end connects to the spark plugs...
The distributors have the wire numbers stamped on top. When I changed mine, I happened to clean the crud off, and there they were.
Because the replacement distributor and spark plugs wont fire correctly if it installed in any other position.

Have you checked all of the High Tension leads from the distributor to the plugs, or just one or two? Same with HT lead from Coil to Distributor, Check Distributor cap for cracks
