A circular path that the water takes is called an eddy. An eddy can be dangerous in the ocean because if it gets close enough to shore it can cause a rip tide that will carry people out to sea.

The circular path can also refer to the passage of the water from the oceans, up into the atmosphere, moving around in clouds, then falling as rain down to the land, rivers and back to the ocean.
