German is the 2nd most popular language learnt in Russia (after English).The main language of Russia is Russian, but there would be some in Russia who can speak German and other languages. When I was in Russia I found very few people who spoke anything beyond Russian.
when you say the most common Russian do you mean varient of the Russian language? because I you do it's Russian because Russian is spoke both in Russia and Belarus and also in parts of Ukraine
If you spoke French in Russia, most of the people would not understand a word you said. Unless they also spoke French.

Stalin spoke Georgian as his mother tongue as he was from Georgia. He also spoke Russian but it was with a Georgian accent.
Alexandra was the wife of the Tsar. She was german-born but spoke English. She was highly influenced by Rasputin and tried to rule Russia for herself instead of letting her husband Nicholas the Tsar do it.
It's hard to say, but since Lithuania was occupied by the Soviet Union, citizens had to use Russian. Therefore, almost every citizen of Lithuania who is in his thirties or older speaks Russian. The new generation however, mainly speaks in English (as well as Lithuanian of course). My estimate is 60%-80%
