Bella Swan, 17, who lives with her mom and stepdad in Phoenix, Arizona but her mom wants to travel with her new husband who plays minor league Baseball. She decides to move with her biological father who lives in Forks, Washington. At first she is miserable because she enjoys dry weather and heat, but then she meets Edward Cullen, whom she falls in love with. She finds out he is a vegetarian vampire, but doesn't care. If anything, it makes him even more attractive (in her eyes). Then a simple date out to a giant field for vampire baseball goes awry when 3 "bad vampires" pass through and James, a vampire with an uncanny sense for tracking people, finds Bella's scent too desirable to ignore, and he hunts her. He almost killed her, by throwing her head into a mirror, breaking her leg and a few ribs, and biting her wrist injecting venom that Edward later sucked out. James was killed and Bella just went to the hospital for a couple weeks to heal. Then Edward takes Bella to prom and they live happily ever after.

When she sees Jake's friends Cliff Diving, she decides to try it, all on her own. Little does she know Alice saw her jumping, and now Edward thinks she is dead. Now Alice and Bella must go and stop Edward from making the Volturi kill him.

It starts with Bella's eighteenth birthday. She is sad about becoming older than Edward. At her birthday party in the Cullen's house she injures herself and starts to bleed. Jasper tries to attack her, but Edward jumps between them. Rosalie and Emmet have already finished high school and pretend that they are going to college. Bella and Edward spend a lot of time together, but Bella feels that something is wrong. Edwards decides that he won't make Bella's life more difficult and leaves. Bella is left heartbroken for months. She acts like a zombie. Charlie threaten's to send her to Renee's if she doesn't start to live her life again. Bella doesn't want to move, and wants to do something crazy, because she promised Edward she wouldn't. She get's two bikes and asks Jacob to fix them. Jacob helps her to feel a bit better without Edward. When Bella does crazy things like riding a bike, she hears Edwards voice in her head telling her not to do it. So to hear his voice she keeps doing it. Jacob is scared of Sam Uley and thinks he wants him to be in his gang where his friends already belong,and he doesnt want to join. One day Jacob doesn't talk to Bella anymore and she thinks it's Sam's fault. The town has been attacked by huge bears and Charlie tells Bella not to go to the forest. She wants to get away and goes anyway, there she meets Laurent who tells her that Victoria wants to kill her in revenge for James. He tries to kill her himself, but the bears who turn out to be wolves kill him instead. Turns out that Sam Uleys gang is a bunch of kids who are werewolves, and Jacob is one of them. Since Jacob doesn't have that much time for Bella anymore, she starts to do crazy stuff on her own. She tries cliff diving, and nearly dies. when she gets home Alice is there, she saw a vision of Bella's jump, thinks it's a suicide and comes to check on her. Then she sees a vison that Edward goes to Italy to the Volturi(the royals of vampires, if you irritate them they kill you, and they keep order in the vampire world so vampires wouldn't be revealed) and asks them to kill him,because he thinks Bella is dead. Bella and Alice go to Italy to stop him. Luckily they make it but then they need the Volturi to let them leave. Finally they get the permission and go back home, with a promise that Bella will become a vampire, because she nows about vampires. Edward desides to stay in forks, he understands they can't stay away from each other. Charlie is mad at Edward and grounds Bella for going to Italy. In the end Bella has a vote with the Cullens about her becoming a vampire, they agree and Carlisle says he'll change her after graduation. Bella still would like Edward to do it, and he proposes to her and say's he will change her if they get married.
