The story is set in a happy Daly city,California home gone bad. David is the oldest of a growing family and is horribly abused by his mother. His mother starves him and only gives him scraps of food if he finishes his chores on time (which is impossible) so he sets on a mission doing whatever he can to get food. From stabbing him to starving to just plain out beating him the mother is evil. The father is the boys hero he sneaks him food and helps him with chores so when he leaves there is nothing protecting him. But don't worry he gets saved. probably the saddest book ever.
His father just worked in the heart of San Fransisco,but Dave did not live there with his family. He is beaten, starved, and just plain out abused!
