Pockets didn't come into fashion. Pockets have always been on clothing. Since the years have gone by the pocket number has grown as the need to carry stuff in our pockets grew. Just like the baggy pants that people now wear have tons of pockets on them, pants from the twenties or thirties probably had that many pockets or maybe a fewer number.
