Large wooden Greek letters displayed on fraternity and sorority houses serve as a symbol of identity, unity, and pride for members of the organization. They represent the values, traditions, and history of the fraternity or sorority, and also help to create a sense of belonging and community among members. Additionally, the letters can serve as a way to promote visibility and recognition of the organization on campus.
During the Ivy Beyond the Wall ceremony, members of a fraternity or sorority commemorate and pay tribute to deceased members of their organization. The ceremony typically involves a solemn gathering where the names of those who have passed away are read aloud, and ivy is planted in their memory to symbolize the everlasting bond with the organization. It is a way for the fraternity or sorority to honor and remember their fallen members.

The bad effects of this organization is that their real goal and objectives is disappearing. Instead of helping the community and be a good model among the youth, they are the one who's starting trouble in their community and become an arrogant person for being a member of it...But I did not mean that all of the fraternity and sorority but some of them...You can still find a good one who's purpose is true..I can only suggest that you can live life without fraternity/sorority and a life greater than them...
Jesus did. When he ascended into heaven he made a hard left turn and flew to the Americas where he began to convert the lost tribe of Israel, the Native Americans. During that time he did a great many things including inventing the shot glass and the Fraternity/Sorority way of life.

Yes. Your financial aid status will not stop you from joining a sorority. However, if you rush and are bid into the sorority, there are sometimes requirements that you must live in the sorority house. From a financial aid standpoint, the costs of the sorority beyond that of room and board will not be covered - you will need to find a way to cover the incremental costs of joining.
LOL, why is the sky blue, and the grass green? It's the way of life. Each color represent that each sorority wears has far more meaning that meets the eye.

"they are two of the black historical fraternity and sorority that were founded in January 1911." That is an incorrect answer! Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority was founded January 15, 1908 and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity was founded January 5, 1911. Both Greek Lettered Organizations are primarily, though not exclusively, African American in their demographic profile. The thing that relates the two organizations is the fact that Lucy Diggs Slowe, one of the sixteen original founders of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, and Elder Watson Diggs, the principal founder of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity were FIRST COUSINS and both were the FIRST President (Basileus/Polemarch) of their respective organizations' Alpha Chapter. Additionally, both were Educators and Grade School Principals. Other than these few factoids is the common knowledge that Pretty Girls wear 20 Pearls (members of AKA) and Pretty Boys (members of K-A-Psi) LOVE Pretty Girls! (LOL!)
Many years ago, Delta Founder, Florence Letcher Toms, began collecting trunk-up elephants as a symbol of good luck. In her honor these beautiful creatures came to be an unofficial symbol for the sorority.
