I am no mechanic but i just had my ignition coils changed on my ford expedition and there are 8 it was expensive to fix .

According to the 2000 Ford Expedition Owner Guide : Both the 4.6 and 5.4 liter V8 engines have the Coil On Plug ( C.O.P. ) ignition system ( that has 8 individual coils ) so there is no distributor or distributor cap

the coils are directly on top of each spark plug. they are round and have an electrical plug coming out of the side.
No they don't have distributor caps. They have coil packs. The 4.6L has two coil packs and the 5.4L has eight coil parks. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Actually , the 2000 Ford Expedition 4.6 also has the Coil On Plug ignition system with the ( 8 ) individual coils ( according to the owners manual ) like the 5.4 does
