separation of hydrocarbons means separation crude oil of unpuerties also separation hydrocarbon gases but in case separation of crude oil only oil
Oil float over the water surface; use a decantation funnel for separation.
emulsifier. Also, a device that removes oil from water, or water from oil - depending upon its application.
Oil and water separate because oil will float to the top and water will sink to the bottom. The reason oil wil float to the top because oil is non polar while water is compound polar. Separation by decantation and filtration.Separation by decantation and filtration.
Separator design can be complex. I will just cover the basics. Crude oil from a well needs to be cleaned up, that is removal water and gas, so that it can be sold. The horizontal separator has an inlet at one end, where the crude oil enters. In a three phase separator, the gas will separate from the oil due to the lower pressure in the vessel and flow out of an outlet in the top of the separator. Water is generally less dense than oil so it will settle in the bottom of the vessel. A water level controller is needed to make sure the oil does not drain out the bottom. A diagram of a horizontal separator is shown in the following link: http://www.glossary.oilfield.slb.com/Display.cfm?Term=separator Why do I say that the design is complex? A common problem is that the gas can entrain some of the oil if the velocity of gas is high in the separator. Baffles are designed to prevent this. The separator never perfectly separates the gas and water from the oil, and a staged separation system may be needed. Gas to be saleable may need to be dehydrated after separation. The water may contain oil, and need additional clean up before disposal. I will assume that your question is how do you separate natural gas from crude oil. Oil comes out of a flowing well at an elevated pressure and enters a separation tank to separate the water, oil and gas or just oil and gas. The tank may be horizontal or vertical. There must be sufficient retention time in the separator to allow for the separation. If the flow rate of liquid and gas into the separator is too high, oil droplets can be entrained along with gas flow. To prevent this, baffles are used that help the droplets coalesce and separate.

in order to separate an insoluble solid from a liquid
The oil and water will separate into two layers with oil as the top layer.
First pour the water.
Separation by decantation and filtration.
1. Separation of table salt from ocean water by evaporation of water; sodium chloride remain as a crystallized solid.2. Separation of oil from water: two phases are formed. The oil from the surface can be separated and collected with the help of a separation funnel.
Oil float over the water surface; use a decantation funnel for separation.
Oil and gas are less dense than water therefore will separate and float.
the function of gas-oil separator is to separate the production fluids into their constituents such as oil, gas and water
It is the gas and the water that is in there
