It could be because the hard drive is fragmented and has a harder time accessing information on it. Run a defrag. To do this click Start>Accessories>System Tool> Disk Defragmenter. Also run a disk clean up which can be found in the same folder. It also could be a virus or a bunch of spy ware or your internet could be throttled or slowed at the moment for what ever reason. I use Auslogics Disk Defrag along with Advanced System Care : free edition and I never have a single problem with my computer.
