The medical name for a heel spur is "calcaneal spur." It is a bony growth that forms on the underside of the heel bone (calcaneus) and is often associated with conditions like plantar fasciitis, where inflammation occurs in the tissue connecting the heel bone to the toes. Heel spurs can cause pain and discomfort, particularly during activities that put pressure on the heel.
Tendonitis.

Calcaneous is the heel bone and it is the largest bone in the human foot.
A thorough history and physical exam is always necessary for the proper diagnosis of heel spurs and other foot conditions. X rays of the heel area are helpful, as excess bone production will be visible.
