A dog's pH varies from 6.2 to 8.62 depending on the breed. It is best to make sure of this, and if your pet has pre-existing skin problems. Most dog shampoos indicate pH level on the label; if it doesn't try calling the manufacturer to be certain. You'll be glad you did.

Interesting question. The pH is of course dependent on the dogs diet, but in at least one study (which was primarily concerned with the affects of adding non-digestable cellulose fiber to the diet in an attempt to create a "firmer" more easily cleaned up poop) the control group was fed a readily available commercial dog food without added cellulose and the pH was 7.27. The addition of various sized fibers resulted in pH's from 7.23 to 7.42.
