I assume you refer to resonant circuits. The Q (=quality) of a circuit is determined by the ratio of the centre frequency of the circuit compared to the bandwidth of the 'half power points'. Quite typically Q numbers of an IF circuit will be 100 or so.

So it is a measure of the ability of the circuit to discriminate between the signal and the background noise (or other signals).
