A top damper or cap damper is a metal spring door placed at the top of the chimney with a long metal chain that allows one to open and close the damper from the fire place.
ATC stands for Automatic temperature control. atc is a sort of sub-discipline of HVAC and the ATC drawing is for the controls contractor to understand the control logic the HVAC engineer has intended for the digital controls to meet system performance. Some examples are air/water flow rates, Humidity control, temperature control, etc.
HVAC technicians are Heating Ventilation, and Air Conditioning Technicians, we work on air conditioners and refrigeration stuff
Compressed air production.
The purpose is what it was without a HVAC system ... to make heat !

A steering damper serves the same purpose as a shock absorber. Dennis
to solve vibration problems
A fire damper isolates and area by using a fusable link that will melt at a specific temperature that then aallows a dampoer to close to either isolate a room, area or HVAC duct. The damper is located when duct passes through a fire rated wall or for a return air opening.
HVAC in a car is the Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning system.
It controlls the theft alarm, interior lights, wipers, part of the hvac system, cluster, etc.
The damper controls the air flow across the fin-tube. Depending on the heat-exchanging capacity of the tube, which is affected by things like system capacity, pipe size and condition, throttling valves, pump condition, etc., a damper more closed should exchange less heat into the space and a damper more open should exchange more heat into the space.
It does the same job as a shock absorber, helping the road springs.
