∙ 11y agoAn embedded device is an electronic device with an integrated computing facility (i.e. a micro processor of some sort), which doesn't look or feel like a PC-style computer. While a PC (desktop, laptop, netbook, ...) is a general-purpose computing device, embedded devices are generally specialized.
For example, the computer within a modern washing machine would be classified as an embedded device.
The dividing line is fuzzy though. Some would classify a tablet computer an embedded device, others would argue that it is a more-or-less general purpose computing device, thus to be grouped with PC-style computers.
