There's something called the "placebo effect", which basically means that if people believe they're taking medicine, they may report feeling better (and may actually even GET better) even if what they're taking isn't medicine at all.
The control group getting sugar pills exists to make sure that the people being given the actual drug aren't just feeling better because they think they're supposed to. If the "drug" has about the same effectiveness in both groups, then the researchers can be pretty sure it's due to the placebo effect; only if the subjects getting the real drug report significantly more improvement than the ones getting the sugar pills will the drug be considered to be effective.
In real clinical trials, not even the physicians that interact with the patients should know which ones are real and which ones aren't, to ensure that they behave the same with both groups. This is called a "double-blind" study: neither the patients nor their physicians know which pills were real and which were fake (at least until after the study is complete).
The group of participants chosen for an experiment is called the experimental group. This group is exposed to the intervention or treatment being studied to compare results with a control group that does not receive the intervention.
Control group, or simply control. Please study.
A control group is a group in an experiment that does not receive the treatment being studied, serving as a baseline for comparison with the experimental group, which does receive the treatment. The experimental group is the group that is exposed to the different variables or conditions being tested in an experiment to see if there are any effects or changes.
the group given the sugar pill is the base, they will not have any changes or reactions to the pill scicnce they didnt take it, so they can compare the side affects of the pills between the people who took the pill and those who didnt.
Sugar Land was given its name because the area was once a sugar cane field. The business, Imperial Sugar, harvested and refined the sugar. The Imperial Sugar area is now being re-developed.
Yes and it has no purpose given that it is a sweetener and the main ingredient is sugar.
If your doctor has advised you to test your blood sugar, be sure to do it exactly as directed. Skipping testing can result in being given the wrong dosage of medication or not being aware that you are approaching a crisis.
Sugar would not belong to the vitamins group.
Since one group of patients would be given the placebo (a tablet or capsule with absolutely no medicinal qualities), its sole purpose is to install a false hope in the group that they are receiving helpful medication. Another group of patients are given a real medicine. If the genuine prescription begins to work for the second group and they begin making strides toward recovery, it becomes obvious that the placebo is not worthy of further use.
