The purpose of the sign is not only to let other drivers know they have a child in the car, but to alert paramedics to the vehicle if there is a severe car accident. For example, if a mother is driving an infant and gets into an accident that kills the mother, or leaves her unconscious, the sticker's purpose is to alert paramedics that there is a child in the car, just in case the car is in a position where the carseat is out of view. If the car gets crushed, the paramedics will know that the infant may still be alive in the carseat with the car smashed in around it. In a situation like this, a paramedic may not be able to see that there is a carseat tangled up in the mess. Another purpose for the sign is to alert emergency personnel to the fact that a child may be restrained in a seat in which they cannot unbuckle themselves. The signs serve many purposes. Some of the yellow signs are made for children with autism and/or special needs who may not respond to emergency personnel in the event of an accident.

To teach a baby sign language, start with simple signs like "more," "milk," and "all done." Consistently use the signs while saying the associated word to reinforce the connection. Be patient and consistent, and remember that babies may not start signing back immediately.
